In comparison to AC tempered building environments it has been stated that it can reduce energy consumption by up to 50% and capital cost by 15%. Maintenance costs can be reduced by 75%.
These savings are attained by harnessing the physics of natural air movement. Warm internal air rises naturally, and air moving across the roof draws the used air from the building through strategically placed terminals. The only electricity consumption may be used to occasionally attenuate louvres to control inlets and extracts.
