Statistics released by the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) show that 9% of the UK’s electricity was generated from renewable sources from July to September last year. This is a 1% increase for the same time frame in 2010. The statistics show a 64% increase in the amount of electricity generated by offshore wind and a 36% increase for onshore wind.
DECC suggested that this increase is partly due to increased capacity and partly because it was the windiest September for at least 10 years. Power from wind farms supplied 12.2% of the UK’s total demand on the very windy 28 December last year, wind supplied 5.3% of total demand in December.
