According to Edward Davey, the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, the CRC proposal will save business millions of pounds through cutting down on “red tape”. The CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme will not only encourage business to take actions on improving their energy efficiency, but also deliver substantial savings in meeting carbon budgets. The administrative costs of the participants in the scheme will be cut by approximately two thirds, saving roughly £330 million by 2030 while reaching the target of 21 Mt CO2 savings by 2027.
Among the proposal, the CRC qualification process is shortened and the number of fuels covered is cut from 29 to 4. The CRC will adopt new emission factors and connect it with the reporting procedure of green house gases. The Government will modify the CRC legislation by April 2013 after the official consultation finishing in mid- June 2012.
