The Standardised Homes Scheme is an initiative to build thouplasands of standardised homes all across London. It was developed and initiated by Kelvin Campbell; one of the consultants behind the London Design Guide.
The Standard Homes Scheme aims to integrate different agreed design parameters for different houses in London so that the planning application relating to these principles will be quick and easy. This scheme is also intended to promote the growth of pre-fabricated building systems by allowing different systems to fit together.
Although Campbell is looking for the support of the Greater London Authority, the GLA claim that they are keen but no decision has yet been made. Campbell stressed that “This is about establishing standard building typologies that can become accepted by councils as permitted developments, guaranteeing you consent within 13 weeks where the standard is one to two years. But this is not about something that one contractor or one council does – we want to make it the new normal.”
