Ghana will soon welcome a solar PV plant of 155 MW which will become the largest in the country and one of the biggest in the world. This will increase by 6% the generation capacity of the country and will meet by itself the 20% of the 10 % of electricity generated by renewable technologies.
Nzema’s PV power plant will be built by a subsidiary of Blue energy (UK company). The construction of the plant will start by the end of 2013 and full power will be attained around October 2015. It will include over 630,000 solar PV modules and will cost over $400 m.
The project has for aim to show the potential for solar photovoltaic in Africa.
