According to a recent announcement from Ofgem the FIT for solar PV technology less than 50 kW is set to remain the same until the end of June 2013 given additional time for small scale projects to take advantage of the current rates.
This announcement provides some form of market security, however there will be a decrease of 3.5% for projects of over 50 kW from the 1st May 2013. It is expected that this year will see an increase in level of Solar PV systems in the UK with highly competitive installation prices being offered. Depending of the size and construction of a building, the cost of a solar system can vary and gain a number of quotes from different suppliers, which will enable comparisons. However, the cheapest is not always the best and it is particularly true with Solar PV where there is a great disparity between the quality of the product used. Investors should focus on warranties, performance guarantees and insurance to provide a long-term output.
