Currently, the Department of Energy & Climate Change (DECC) has commissioned the Building Research Establishment (BRE) to carry out a research project, regarding the energy efficiency of the UK’s domestic buildings.
The main aim of this research is to examine the solid wall properties. More particularly, it will investigate the heat losses in the approximately 7 million solid wall properties in the UK and how these properties perform before and after the installation of the solid wall insulation.
It is worth mentioning that the study is expected to last over 2 years and will intent to further prove the benefits of the technologies like the internal and external wall insulation.
In addition, the research will also take into account the energy use of each occupant and the accuracy of existing techniques for measuring heat losses.
The BRE’s director of housing stock performance, Mr. John Riley, mentioned that: “Solid wall homes may be significant consumers of energy and this project will allow more accurate predictions of the energy consumption of these homes and identify the potential for energy savings from solid wall insulation.”
The research project will incorporate many laboratory tests and surveys on actual properties, aiming to find out the reasons for variations among the expected energy savings, and the actual ones achieved, from the solid wall insulation.
