The DECC (Department of Energy & Climate Change) is proposing to more than double the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) tariff for large-scale ground heat-pump installations. This could see the tariff rise from 8.9 to 10.2p/kWh of renewable heat produced. It will be applied to 1350 h of peak capacity and fall to 2.3p/kWh thereafter. Hence, the tariff for large installations has been trebled.
The Ground Source Heat Pump Association believes this is just what the ground-source sector needs to get back on track and see growth in ground-source installations plus the supply of much greater levels of renewable heat in Britain.
The technology is tried and tested and at One New Change in London, one installation which was monitored for a year, delivered 4.1kWh of heating and/or cooling for every kWh of energy consumption.
