Triad charges are related to National Grid’s transmission charges, they represent a great bonus for generating exported power at peak demand times. They consider three half hours between November and February each year and calculate the average demand on the national grid during these three periods. These have to be separated by a minimum of ten days from each other. After collecting the period data the Transmission Network Use of System (TNUOS) charges have been calculated, these cover the cost of installation and maintenance of the systems. The users pay in base of the geographical location and whether they are generation or supply.
The National Grid publishes the three highest maximum demand (MD) readings in March each year, these include the demand between November in the previous year and February in the current year. Management of the demand on the TRIAD dates can deliver savings up to 30KW in some areas.
