While Government subsidies for solar panels will drop by 87% on January 1st 2016, Reading Borough Council will be working with community organisation Energy4All to install solar panels for 28 buildings around the county.
While the subsidy cuts are a blow to many looking to reap the rewards of solar energy, Energy4All as a community organisation are exempt from the new tariffs.
The plans will see solar panels installed at 30 corporate and community buildings across Berkshire.
The list of eligible buildings were reviews by the Strategic Environment, Planning and Transport Committee on the 24th November, and the final list should be released soon.
The buildings under consideration includes The Hexagon, Reading Central & Tilehurst Libraries, the Town Hall & Reading Museum and 3 buildings from Acre road Business Park. Also under consideration are a number of schools and community buildings.
