An iconic sustainable apartment block where we provided a range of key services has been shortlisted for a prestigious architecture industry award.
The Rye Apartments in Peckham Rye were nominated for the Royal Institute of British Architects regional awards last year.
But due to the pandemic no winners were selected and so judges have ruled that las year’s shortlisted nominees will provide the pool from which the 2021 awards are drawn.
The Rye Apartments consist of ten luxury apartments set over two blocks connected by a concrete plinth to mask the different building levels on a corner plot alongside Victorian houses.
An exposed cross-laminate timber structure has been used to create natural open spaces ‘whilst optimising construction time and minimising carbon emissions’, explained architects Tikari Works.
Syntegra engineers provided the project’s M&E design work, energy and sustainability analysis and recommendations, building compliance testing and sound insulation design and testing.
The buildings’ façade is made from 10,000 handmade clay shingles produced in Denmark.
