Daylight calculations are implemented by energy assessors to find the effectiveness of natural light that is expected to penetrate a room. Some key factors such as the size of the opening, reflectivity of surfaces and view of clear sky from a window will all influence the daylight factor in a room. The results of the calculations give the daylight factor for the investigated room which are required to meet the standards. BREEAM and code for sustainable Homes Assessments could both be applied to give calculation.
In the report, some recommendations are proposed to improve the effective use of lighting, passive solar heating or cooling. In addition, these will also benefit the credits gained in BREEAM and code for sustainable homes.
